This post’s inspiration comes from an animated movie I watched – The Pilgrim’s Progress – this is an originally a written book.
My biggest lesson – Despair
I think that one thing I have come to understand is that everybody’s life does indeed go differently even if they are born twins. Despair arises when we feel like we are in a hopeless situation, that nothing can save us, change us or help us. But you see, I like to think about it as a myriad, because there is hope.
- Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. Pro 13:12
When expectations are cut short, hopes are dashed, feelings are numbed, and it seems like there’s no hope – there is hope. Its times like this our hope is in God, to save and deliver. Just be still and know that God is God.
In the movie, when the giant abducted the two men and locked them up in the cage, the giant couldn’t actually kill the two men, do you know what it could and did? Speak negatively to them, the giant told them words just like we hear, – good for nothing, horrible, just end it all. But having remembered what they were told about this, their hope come alive, and they were able to escape the land of despair – so can you and I and in all situations.
For me, though it might seem easier to pen down, but I have faced situations that seemed hopeless but my heavenly Father who watches over me sees me and helps me. One of my fave scripture when I feel life’s pressure is –
- The Lord GOD is my strength [my source of courage, my invincible army]; He has made my feet [steady and sure] like hinds’ feet And makes me walk [forward with spiritual confidence] on my high places [of challenge and responsibility]. For the choir director, on my stringed instruments. Hab 3:19
Like that giant, we can’t be moved except we fall for the deception of the negative pressures and voices – we have a helper who is ever present.
